How are the Laws of conservation of Energy and Momentum similar?

How are the laws of conservation of momentum and energy similar?

Here are the formulas:

Law of conservation of momentum:

P1 + P2= P1′ P2′

m1 v2 + m2 v2 = m1′ v1′ + m2′ v2′

Law of conservation of Energy:

KEi + PEi = KEf + PEf
I think that the energy can’t be created nor distroyed but it can be transformed from one form to another.
But is that the similarity???

Please explain Law of Conservation of Energy?

Peter Griffin asked:

I understand that energy is converted from one form to another and that the law of conservation of energy states that energy is not created or destroyed. However, I do not understand how energy is conserved if it seems to eventually dissipate. For example, when a top spins kinetic energy is not lost because it is transformed into thermal energy due to friction. When the top eventually stops and when the ground cools and everything seems to have reverted back to what it was before, how is energy still conserved?

How can the law of conservation of energy be related to sports?

mahl@rogers.com asked:

How can you use physical laws and principles to help analyse a problem with sports? For example, explain the importance of the initial kinetic energy of a pole vaulter or high jumper.
I just need to be able to describe ALL the laws and principles of energy relating to any ONE given sport.
