I’m asked to do a simple project on Electrical energy conservation … the easy and simple steps that one can take in day-to-day life etc. I searched it out on wikipedia and couple of sites, but didn’t get enough info.
I’d be glad if someone could help me out in this.

  1. Electrical energy conservation is easy. Turn off lights when you leave a room or there is enough ambient light to see comfortably. Turn down electric water heater temperatures or electric heating thermostats. Unplug (or use a power strip that you can turn off) energy vampires, such as TVs, stereo equipment, electric coffee makers, etc.

  2. Go to your local electricity company. They offer a lot of suggestions and also information on your biggest culprits on your electric bill.

I live in Florida and the electric company is Florida Power and Light: fpl.com. They offer a program that has a representative come out and go through the house and make suggestions. Very informative.

  5. Only have 1 light on at night in the room that you are in at night. When you enter a room and turn the light on, turn it off as soon as you leave the room. Turn down your thermostat several degrees overnight. During your awake hours wear sweatpants and a sweatshirt and turn down the heat a few degrees to save energy. Use an energy saving light bulb instead of the old 100 Watt light bulbs. In your kitchen try to use fluorescent lights instead of incandescent lights (you will use less than 1/2 the energy). Close the heat registers in the basement and in rooms that you do not use. Plus keep the doors to these rooms closed at all times. Use a heating blanket under a quilt rather than turning up the heat for your entire house. When not using your computer printer or scanner unplug them. Do not keep your computer in standby mode or in hibernation. Turn your computer right off. Unplug all other appliances that you are not using, Do not turn your outside lights on at all. Use LED lights for your Christmas lightingvery very cheap! During the winter months keep your computer in your warmest room to save from heating an extra room. Use a heating blanket to stay warm. These are but a few of the many things that you can do to save on your electricity bill.
